Things I Love About You:

I believe it is possible to improve your marriage in just ten days. About a week ago, I wrote a post discussing disrespectfulness in marriage called The Sitcom Wife accompanied by a list of things that communicate disrespect. Maybe you feel like you’ve gotten to the point of no return. Maybe you’ve contributed to a rough season in your marriage due to disrespect. Chances are you didn’t even realize you were disrespecting your husband. You aren’t alone; recently, Marcus filled me in on the fact that my tone of voice could have been better. He felt like I was criticizing and attacking him. During our conversation, I thought my tone was perfectly fine – I was helping! Nope, that’s not the way he saw it. lookdown

Sometimes, we ladies have to reevaluate how we “help.” Continue reading Things I Love About You:

He Is The Constant

At first glance, Ecclesiastes’ everything-is-meaningless theme can leave you feeling somewhat depressed. However, the Teacher does end his rant with a conclusion: The end of the matter; all has been heard. *Fear God and obey his commandments…”–Eccl.12:13 ESV.  Life is a struggle. Circumstances can bring us to our knees. Loved ones will fail and disappoint us at times. Friends will come and go. We will be hurt and broken down. Happiness is something that can often fly away much faster than it swooped in.

The one aspect of life that truly matters: God.

He is the one and only constant in this life of highs and lows. Only when that realization hits, will you be able to cry your eyes out, and then pick yourself up off the floor with a feeling of peace. Just as all the hairs of our head are numbered, so are our days. What matters is the last stop, the end of the race, seeing God face to face. We have hope in Him. When life knocks you completely off your feet, remember He who created you. He is the beginning and the end, the one who can make your brokenness mend.

*reverential awe

Maya

That could’ve been me.
My breath goes in a gust.
That should’ve been me.

Maya’s Story:
I saw you and you took my breath away.
You wanted to talk; my heart jumped a beat.
You had your eye on me; I noticed the very first day.
My chest ached; you asked me to take a seat.
What did you say?  I heard the words I was hoping you’d say.
You’d take me out to eat.
We’d sit and talk all day.

I’m in love. I’m a fool. Continue reading Maya

5 Ways Husbands Feel Disrespected

*corresponds with The Sitcom Wife.

I asked my husband, Marcus to help me put together a list of ways men can feel disrespected by their wives:

  • Dismissing or “writing him off.” – Isn’t he important?
  • Not taking his opinions/thoughts/ideas into consideration. – Is he invalid? Is he a child?
  • Voicing overly negative opinions about his job or your money issues. – Most men see themselves as the provider. Unnecessarily commenting on this topic in front of people can make him feel inadequate, like he’s failing you.
  • Complaining to your friends/mom about him. – This can easily backfire on you as it can lead others to see him in a negative light. You’ve made up over that fight you had yesterday, but now your mom hates him. I’m not saying you should never talk about your problems, but first, ask yourself why you are doing it. Are you just venting out of anger or are you seeking advice?
  • Tone of voice. – You can say the same sentence with a different tone and get a completely different reaction.

I’ll close out this list by asking: Would you disrespect yourself? You are no longer two separate individuals; you are one, as a whole (Mark 10:8, Gen. 2:24).

The Sitcom Wife

Do you have a “sitcom” marriage? Most of us have seen at least one sitcom TV show in which the focus is on the portrayal of the everyday, average family. There’s the dimwitted husband who can’t do anything right or make a good decision without his multitalented wife who can barely tolerate him. They constantly sling insults and insinuative comments at one another and it’s hilarious. In today’s culture, we are bombarded with feminist messages that started out telling us we are as good as men. True, but now, they can go as far as telling us that men are completely irrelevant; they don’t matter at all. Continue reading The Sitcom Wife

Seek, and Ye Shall Find

imageGod’s methods never fail to amuse me. Here I am with this brand new website, and I get THIS from the JCTROIS Daily Bible Devotion app. In case you can’t load the picture, it reads:

Do you have a personal ministry? A personal ministry will develop your faith as you minister to other people. If you do have a personal ministry, what is your goal you want to accomplish this year? If you don’t have one, think about what calls to your heart….

Even before I got started, I prayed He would give me counsel. I’ve continued to pray for God to lead me through it and put the right words on my lips. My request was that God would communicate with me and He has answered! Continue reading Seek, and Ye Shall Find

His Love and Mercy

Quick! Order your livestock and servants to come in from the fields to find shelter. Any person or animal left outside will die when the hail falls.   Exodus 9:19

This verse is the prime example of God’s mercy. Before the Plague of Hail, God sent Moses to warn the very people He was bringing disaster upon. The Egyptians had no desire to learn about God and follow Him and yet, He still showed them concern and mercy. I smiled as I read this verse because it demonstrates the enormous depth of His love. Even the least deserving receive that which they have not earned.

Exodus 19:21 follows shortly afterwards with similar content: Then the LORD told Moses, “Go back down and warn the people not to break through the boundaries to see the LORD, or they will die…”

Buried Talents

I started this blog, not by my own decision, but because the Lord practically shoved me into it. I admit this with a bit of shame. I knew He wanted me to get started, but I was intimidated. As a result, I continued to put it off. Instead, I just kept considering it. All the signs were there. I kept hearing Him tell me through radio sermons and the scriptures I read. It was as if the radio show host was speaking God’s words directly to me. He was reaching out to me and I ignored Him. “I can’t, Lord; I’m not good enough. I wouldn’t be able to explain things correctly. I’m too ordinary.” I’d told myself I couldn’t do it.

Did you know that Moses protested five times during his conversation with God at the burning bush? He pleaded with God to send someone else, anyone else. Continue reading Buried Talents
